The “Health Cup” Pitch Competition was held for the 4th consecutive year, on March 17th, in the auditorium of the incubator UBImedical | UBIExecutive, of the University of Beira Interior (UBI), in Covilhã, Portugal. The “Health Cup” is a seed capital competition that aims to support teams that intend to create companies in the areas of health and life sciences and implement in UBImedical | UBIExecutive, rewarding innovative projects in these areas. This year’s competition was also held in association with the EcoAction project, an EIT HEI initiative, supported by EIT Manufacturing, and coordinated by EIT Raw Materials, which intends to leverage institutions’ entrepreneurial and innovation knowledge models. For this competition, 2 teams are selected as winners, being awarded with 5.000€, as well as 1-year of free incubation and 1-year of attending to the incubation programme.
With 8 teams applying for the competition from several areas of interest, the 2 winning teams were team ‘DemWell’, who presented a mobile app dedicated to informal and freelance carers and institutions providing dementia care, with a person-centred approach, and the ‘Sensobox’ team, who presented an AI-powered smart medicine dispenser for managing and organising medicines. The selection of the winners was made by a jury composed by Professor José Páscoa, Vice-Rector of UBI, Dr. António Aragão, IP & Innovation Consultant at RCF - Protecting Innovation and Dr. Pedro Maurício, Presales & Offer Leader at Capgemini Life Sciences Sector.
